Legionella Prevention

Legionella pneumophila is an ubiquitous bacterium found in virtually every body of water around the globe.

The problem with Legionella is that it often sneaks in from the municipality in low concentrations. Once inside, the building's water distribution system acts as a host. This occurs because the environment of a buildings water distribution system presents an optimal breeding ground for the bacteria. Warm water conditions and nutrients such as sediment and bio-film provide a home for the bacteria to multiply into threatening concentrations. The realities of this little known problem are that 2 out of 3 buildings (66%) are contaminated with Legionella at any given time.
