World Running Out of Water

The source of water for human use is depleting, and rapidly. As of now, there is no ready solution and the World Resources Institute estimates that by 2025 1.8 billion people will be living with scarce access to water.

More concerning is that a great majority of this threatened water supply will be needed to irrigate crops for food. This leaves a dual problem in that water needed for drinking and water needed for food will be needed and prioritizing which is more important will likely become an issue.

The institute places the blame on developed nations for the overuse of water. While this may be true, the solution that is being thought of now relies on water be portable. This is not the case, at least from continent to continent.

It’s estimated that parts of Asia and Africa will be nearly barren of crops in a decade and a half. Droughts and the lack of transportability have already caused issues in some parts of the most populated nations, creating a problem that, as of yet, has no viable solution.
